This is the citadel of the Nileshwaram royality. Who belonged to the clans of the Kolathiri and Zamorins The Nileshwar Rajahs and the Bednore Nayaks battled in this area. This in ruined state without proper care but it is major spot in the history of this place

Maipady Palace, once the seat of Kumbla Rajas or Kumbla Seems, still remains as the seat of power in the minds of local people. Situated around 8 km from Kasaragod on Kasaragod-Perla road, Maipady Palace has a history of about 200 years.

Edneer Mutt is a Hindu monastic institution renowned as a seat of art and learning. Located about 10 km north east of Kasaragod, by the side of the river, Madhuvahini, the Mutt belongs to the line or parampara of Totakacharya, one of the four chief disciples of Adi Sankaracharaya. The chief deities in Edneer Mutt are Dakshinamurthi and Gopalakrishna. The Mutt follows the unique Smartha Bhagawatha tradition of Advaitha Philosophy which has more than 1200 years of glorious history of religion, culture, art, music and social service.

One of the major tourists’ spots in kasaragod, is situated16 KMs east of Kasaragod. This beautiful artists’ village was established by Artist P.S. Pununchithaya, the renowned artist of the west coast. Here visitors can see artisians in work and also buy handicraft items.

The temple has a lot of interesting stories associated with the diety Badrakali and Siva the dwarapalaka. There are two ponds, one for devotees and the other for the poojari. Mornings are like awesome peaceful & a holy ambiance. There are some carvings inside and one would need to take off the shirt to go inside and see them, the large lamp outside the temple is iconic to this temple. Literally, a countryside temple built of laterite stones.

Temple stands in front of Arabic Ocean facing to the west. This Temple stands head high, attracting everybody’s attention on the side of the national highway between Kanhangad and Kasargod. In Malabar, this is the only Siva Temple facing to the west. The Gods and the believers of each Temple will join in the procession of the Thrikkanad Temple festival from their places. Expect the Velichappadu. It is said that, like a watchman the Velichappadu have to stand near the main steps is connected with some myths. This temple is famous for Karkitaka Vavu Bali.

Malik Ibn Denaar Mosque located in Thalangara village of Kasaragod. It is considered as one of the oldest mosques built during the 8th century in Kerala. Ananthapura temple is around 7 kms from Kumbla and is said to be the Moolasthanam of the Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple at Trivandrum. This is the only temple is located in the middle of a lake. The lake hosts a crocodile called Babia, serving as the guardian for the temple.

Anandashram literally means Ashram of joy. Swami Ramdas also called Papa Ramdas founded Anandashram on 15 May 1931, in Kanhangad. The surrounding area, which was called Manjapati before the establishment of the Ashram.

In the northern tip of Kerala lies the Ananthapura Lake Temple, the only lake temple in Kerala. The rectangular lake, supplied with regular spring water, hosts this magnificent temple. It is considered the moolasthanam (original abode) of Lord Ananthapadmanabha, the deity of the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. This 9th-century temple situated 30 km from Bekal in Kasaragod district. The view of the hillocks from the temple is extremely famous. Babia, the vegetarian crocodile and temple guardian, is popular among all the visitors. The drive to the temple in itself is extremely peaceful and calming.
